May 27, 2005 Antietam National Battlefield, Sharpsburg, Maryland
My understanding (geographical) of this battle is fuzzy, so I'm not going to try to explain it. Its significance was that it ended the first invasion of the North by the Confederates and was also the major victory of the North which Lincoln had been waiting for in order to issue the Emancipation Proclamation. You'll see photos of the Sunken Road as well as this bridge in books. The battle ended at the bridge.
