May 18, 2005 Fort Ticonderoga, New York

Fort Ticonderoga was built by the French and was originally named Fort Carillon.  It was captured by the British during the French and Indian War and renamed Fort Ticonderoga.  (1759)  At the outset of the American Revolution Ethan Allen and the Green Mountain Boys and Benedict Arnold caputured the fort from the British.  Cannons were moved from there by Knox to Dorchester Heights outside of Boston to aid the Patriots in freeing Boston from British occupation. (1777)
